A Genre Study

Bring your pencils and Writers’ Notebooks! In this workshop, you will learn how to:
· plan and develop a unit of study,
· utilize mentor texts that highlight the diversity of our life experiences,
· promote students’ ownership of their learning,
· employ captivating crafting devices, and
· foster metacognition!
According to Katherine Bomer, we write memoir to break the silences surrounding who we are, to make meaning of our lives, to awaken ourselves, to give the gift of personal history, to record what must never be forgotten, to bear witness, to help us understand the broader social and political realities.
