These are starting places. Consider this your launch pad. Many of these units were developed by novice teachers taking the risk to dive into Writing Workshop for their first time.


HIstorical Fiction:

Idea: Create a chart with the book covers displayed along the Y-Axis and the characteristics you want to focus on along the top of the chart. Then analyze each text and record student observations about the characteristics of the genre specific to each text.
Printing the book covers and creating a large chart on butcher paper creates a great resource and display to continuously add to and reference throughout your unit of study.
